Learn to identify trees in winter and discover how different species can be used in bushcraft
Winter is one of the best times to develop your tree identification skills. Without leaves to rely on, you'll learn to recognise trees from their bark, buds, growth habit, crown shape, twigs, catkins and other distinctive features.
Join us for a practical Winter Tree Identification Day in Hertfordshire, exploring our ancient woodland near Bayford and learning how to identify around 30 species of deciduous and coniferous trees commonly found in Britain.
We'll go beyond simply putting a name to a tree. You'll also discover the different properties and traditional bushcraft uses of trees and timber, including how tree identification can help you select suitable wood for fire lighting, shelter building, tools and other woodland skills.
